Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12th of November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (presently Onesti] Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast to receive a score of a perfect of 10 points in an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi is an Romanian gymnastics instructor, who later became Comaneci's coach and first became aware of Comaneci at the age of six. First competing in the national junior championships in Romania in the year 1969, she finished 13th. In 1970, she won. Her first ever international event in 1972 she came out on top by winning three gold awards. When she competed for the first time at a senior level Lyudmila Turkishcheva from Russia took home five gold medals aswell as one silver. The first female ever to perform a backwards double salto when dismounting from an uneven parallel bar. When she was a child, she began performing as the figure skater alongside Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment program Ice Capades. The show featured stage-moving ice-skating shows.
