Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. By the time she was nine years old, the family of Decker lived in Louisiana and she was the winner of an annual regional talent competition with the song Patsy Montana's "I I Want to be the Sweetheart of a Cowboy. Decker was a resident of Georgia in the year she turned fifteen years old. She had started to write songs and made regular visits in Nashville. In search of an agreement, she visited record labels and music publishers. Her songs were being sold to record companies and other artists through a Big Yellow Dog Records agent at the age of 17. Decker's songs were listened to from Mercury Records president David Massey and then passed to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam group-affiliated labels group L.A. Reid was able to sign Decker to a contract. Jessie James released her debut album in August of 2009. The album was a self-titled release. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted a single that brushed into the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker has always considered herself as a singer from the country genre, but the album's marketing and production was geared towards an audience that was more popular. Decker fought against the label for more control over her music after two of her singles failed. The album she released next, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. Decker's second studio album was released with the name Daughter of a Gypsy, or Sweet American Dreams. Mercury was able to cancel it, and three of her country songs failed. She was then released.
